Devereaux Architecture is a residential architecture and planning firm in Northern Virginia with a portfolio of built work that deserves a permanent, reliable stage. When a server-side PHP update destabilized their aging WordPress theme, the firm made a decisive platform call rather than patching around it: move to a stack with nothing left to break.

The project was a WordPress to Webflow migration with a design refresh — a site built to showcase the architectural work and to run without ongoing maintenance.

Why Webflow

The firm's content was stable, which meant a dynamic PHP stack — server updates, plugin compatibility, security patches — carried ongoing risk with none of the benefit. That risk sat entirely in the platform, not in anything the firm was doing.

Migrating to Webflow removed the moving parts. There's no server-side runtime to fall out of date, no plugin chain to maintain, and the portfolio lives in a Webflow CMS collection, structured so new projects can be added without touching code.

What Was Built

Platform migration. Moved from self-hosted WordPress to Webflow. All existing pages were rebuilt in Webflow's designer with a new visual language.

Portfolio CMS. Set up a Webflow CMS collection for projects — filterable by project type, with full image galleries, descriptions, and project details. Adding a project is a content edit, not a code change.

Design refresh. The new design emphasizes the architectural work itself. Large imagery, clean whitespace, and a layout that puts the portfolio front and center.

Performance. The migrated site loads faster than its WordPress predecessor, with no plugin overhead, assets served from Webflow's CDN, and images optimized automatically.

Redirects and SEO. Legacy WordPress URLs were mapped to permanent redirects, structured to minimize disruption to existing search rankings. Meta titles, descriptions, and image alt text carried over and were updated.

Results

In the three years since launch, the site has required no unplanned maintenance and no security patching.
The portfolio is managed as a structured Webflow CMS collection, ready for new projects whenever they're added.
Legacy URLs were redirected permanently, maintaining continuity for existing links and search visibility.
The site loads faster than its WordPress predecessor, with no plugin chain to maintain.
